Symbiosis

The city does not belong solely to humans

In the urban sprawl, beyond the visible dominance of human life, there exist other often overlooked “residents.” Through a deliberate and focused photographic gaze, I seek to examine these non-human inhabitants, challenging the boundaries between the constructed world we control and the natural world that persists within it. As modern cities expand and nature recedes at unprecedented rates, animals are increasingly domesticated, reduced to fulfilling human emotional needs, their roles in our lives now defined by utility rather than mutual existence.

This project aims to provoke a deeper reflection on this evolving relationship. In a time when animals are assimilated into the framework of human convenience, they cease to be wild beings and instead become emotional commodities—comforting presences within a world that is often disconnected from the natural order. I put focus on animals themselves and for the way we perceive and interact with the natural world, hoping to create a visual dialogue that invites viewers to reconsider their understanding of coexistence. These images serve as mediators between the human and the animal residents we share the city with. By observing “the other urban residents” within the world create by human will I seek to question not only how they adapt to our spaces, but also how we, in turn, might be shaped by their presence, their dependence, and our own shifting sense of stewardship over the natural world.
